Re: Rogers 14" floor tom sale question

My personal Emersons are a mint, all-original (except the cord) 71666 and a close-to-mint 29646. The 71666 would fetch substantial money not for it's rarity, but for its original condition. I...

Re: Rogers 14" floor tom sale question

I tried to find some old Emersons in that range and couldn't. Most of them are in collections. I'll find one and post it eventually. In the meantime, please enjoy this Bailey-Lee Presentation fan...

Re: Rogers 14" floor tom sale question

A fair price to a guy who owns a vintage drum shop wouldn't be the same fair price to the guy who owns the rest of the drums that match this particular drum. To him (or her) the fair price might be a...

Re: Rogers 14" floor tom sale question

Re: Rogers 14" floor tom sale question

hehe hehe sarcasm he says....

I also have a side hobby of collecting and fixing old Emerson fans...but it seems I got into the hobby a bit too late because a lot of those old fans are selling for...

Re: Ludwig Standard Granitone Questions

^And again, that would make sense. Maple and mahogany were VERY ubiquitous woods that were commonly used in ALL kinds of woodworking industries back then. So, it would follow that those commonly-used...

Re: [B]1936-39 LUDWIG 6.5 x 14 “BUTTERSCOTCH PEARL” (uncatalogued) SUPER-LUDWIG MODEL

All I can think of is that maybe the butterscotch wrap was somewhat transparent and so when it was wrapped around a shell that had a lighter maple outer ply, the wrap would register as a lighter...

Re: Ludwig Standard Granitone Questions

^Makes sense to me. Back in those days, I'm sure that a painted interior was considered more finished and professional looking.

Re: Friend wants to build me a solid Mahogany snare drum. We need guidance....

It's a beautiful piece of wood, visually....but knots and stability are usually at odds with each other. I'd be especially concerned with the area of the knot that intercedes the area(s) where the...

Re: Friend wants to build me a solid Mahogany snare drum. We need guidance....

I remember that there were some snare drums that used Eames shells (ply) and some of those were very thick, so it might be an interesting sound. Again, personally, I would like to see a shallower...

Re: TWO RARE 1940s-50s SLINGERLAND 4x13 "BE BOP" RADIO KINGS

Cool drums as always, Mike, but maybe not as fancy as many drums in your collection...which is to imply that you have some really fancy drums in your collection! :)

-love those old clamshell lugs,...

Re: Friend wants to build me a solid Mahogany snare drum. We need guidance....

I've worked on some hobbyist-level wood projects before, but I've never built a drum so I can't give much advice....other than to be aware that the thinner you go, the more the wood will...

Re: [B]1936-39 LUDWIG 6.5 x 14 “BUTTERSCOTCH PEARL” (uncatalogued) SUPER-LUDWIG MODEL

If it was yellowed WMP, then the yellowing should be inconsistent under the lugs, etc. That would be the first thing to check.

Re: eBay moment

Well, you guys should consider that there are people in other parts of the world, who think these prices would be just fine. Some people spill money in excess of that. Japan, United Arab Emirates,...

Re: The 14x14 Remains Highly Sought

Sorry guys, but I love seeing high prices on vintage drums. I can't afford to spend that kind of money on a drum....but someone can. Anyone who can afford a 12K floor tom and wants it, should have...

Re: Ludwig 3 ply 18" bass drum shell or complete

You will likely never find a 12 X 18 drumset bass drum, but you might find an old marcher. Good luck.

Re: Oyster Blue

I's a shame that people are doing everything the wrong way in hopes that it will be good enough. A big part of the beauty of the old version oyster wraps is that they look that way because of...

Re: finally Dave Weckl on a real drum set! :)

Weckl is an incredible drummer on any drum set. As a younger guy, I wanted to hate him. I think it was that he raised the bar so high, I couldn't see it anymore. And now, at his age, he's in great...

Re: Re 70's Ludwig Supraphonic w/silver badge

I think there is a strong possibility that BEC is correct about the badge supplier being at fault. I can imagine there was a coil of metal that was fed through some kind of conveyor that stamped and...

Re: New Dynomatic Tom Arm

Anything that relies on rubber or plastic or whatever that material is, does not possess the longevity of what I would call a "real" Rogers design. Eventually, it will shrink, crack, deform, etc. It...
