That's my take on it.

Re: What is this vintage Ludwig strainer called?

Daddy's Junky Music is a name that I haven't heard in several years. As a long-time manufacturer's representative in the musical instrument business, I had a word for stores and regional chains like...

Re: Citrus Mod: now you see it, now you don't

I suppose that is a bargain if you're into Ludwig, jazz fest snares, and Citrus Mod.

Re: Vintage?

Even though everything is vintage something or other, I think that the consensus among drum collectors over the age of 40 has a cutoff year of 1969 for American-made drums classified as "vintage". I...

Re: Vintage?

I have a mix of Leedy lugs on my little bop set made from orphan Leedy drums. Some of the lugs--older nickel lugs on a 1940s-1950s--little 7"x11" tom have bosses.

Re: WFL Barrett Deems Snare

Ludwig has been inclined to recycle names given to drums, or make changes to the specs of a named drum or series of drums,or rename drums for various endorsing artists. . Slingerland also did this to...

Vintage?

Has anyone in this forum had the nads to make posts about "vintage" DW drums? I suppose that their drums made 25 or more years ago could be considered as vintage drums. I have never had the slightest...

Re: WFL Barrett Deems Snare

Do you think it was Ludwig's decision to not label any of it's drum gear the "Ringo" model? Or, maybe did Ringo not authorize the use of his name even though he was a die hard Ludwig player?

Re: Staining and/or sealing stripped drum shells

Thin shell's assessment is spot on from what I've experienced. A wrap that has been glued properly to a mahogany outer ply is real hard to remove without taking some of the mahogany with it.

Re: Staining and/or sealing stripped drum shells

Let's take your sarcastic post a bit further. Why even bother to use cymbals when most cymbal work is either absent from most recorded music or edited out by the recording engineers and producers? We...

Re: Staining and/or sealing stripped drum shells

What the drummer hears is not what the audience hears. I prefer my snare drum to give me a whip crack sound ,and my toms and bass drum to give me a melodic thud with no ringiness. But, does anyone...

Re: Staining and/or sealing stripped drum shells

I never gave the tone of the shells nonsense a moment's thought for my nearly thirty years of playing gigs. Who the hell could hear anything tone-related? The biggest issue when playing in rock bands...

Staining and/or sealing stripped drum shells

Some folks in this thread will already know that one of my pet peeves regarding drums is the staining and/or sealing of drum shells that have been stripped of wrap or opaque paint (non-transparent...

Re: Late 50ís Walnut Rogers kit

I understand completely what your plan of action was. My responses were based on the drums being used as a gigging set. Please enjoy the heck out of your Leedy-based drums.
Oh yeah....and thanks for...

Re: Late 50ís Walnut Rogers kit

The inlays on the bass drum hoops look very nice. You did a very good job of staining and sealing the non-finish quality outer plies. If these nice drums were mine, and I didn't want to re-wrap them,...

Re: Observation from my friend

Many of the "for sale" posts to which I refer are not indicated as item(s) for sale. Before they are opened, they look very much like the "lookie here at what I have" posts by many members including...

Once they bounced me for no reasons given, I said "screw it and them". This place has been nice place to hang.

Re: Observation from my friend

You don't need to check the for sale section unless there's something specific that you're seeking. Otherwise, just click on the newer posts, and you'll see two or thee people selling stuff in the...

Observation from my friend

A good friend responded to the topic that asked if any DFO people participate in this forum. My friend posted that he occasionally checks in here to see what's happening. When he does come to this...

Re: Odd Marketing at Rogers

Something that I left out of my previous post is that the sparkle flakes are all silver. The transparent colors and the opaque black lines separating the colors are printed on the inside of the top...

Re: Odd Marketing at Rogers

Even when the bands of color are perfectly installed at the factory, the edges of the individual bands tend to shrink which causes the gaps through which the shell is visible. The "Salesman's Sample"...

Re: Odd Marketing at Rogers

Yep...That type of shrinkage is the rule rather than the exception. I learned that from George Costanza.

My tri-color Slingy set has band shrinkage. I measured the ugly White Sparkle bands...

Re: Odd Marketing at Rogers

I don't find the tri-onyx to be very appealing. I also think that the prices of the new Rogers drums are out of line with what drummers would pay for them. As for tri-colored drums, I never liked...
