Re: Vintage drum heads play or save?

Same thought as Marty's post above...I hold them by the rim and lightly tap another part of the rim with my palm and listen. It should have a note and resonance on its own. In some cases even new...

Re: any idea what this finish is called Pearl drums

Those are super cool looking! I have a sky blue pearl set of script era Pearls with a Ludwig rail set up in my practice space. I love em.

That logo was 66-73 if I recall. Not familiar with that...

Re: The worst thing that happened to vintage drums

I have restrained myself from posting on this thread because I am partially guilty...but I have a lot of mixed emotions about this. I fitted a swiv-o-matic cymbal mount and bass drum spurs on a 28"...

Re: Rogers Bread and Butter Help

Not trying to let a good thread die here...I sent a FB message back in February to no response. So today (literally 5 minutes ago) I called Brian. Nice fella. He did say that the one that is...

Re: Rogers Bread and Butter Help

Not certain if I mentioned it earlier or not, but I gave this drum to my friend that really isn't even a drummer. I am slowly convincing him to fix it up as best we can and leave it factory original....

Re: Rogers Bread and Butter Help

Funny you should mention that. As a product designer for Whirlpool....that is actually up my alley, and not as far fetched as it may seem. After talking it over with my friend a bit more...he is...

Re: Rogers Bread and Butter Help

Yes Sir, they do have a square tab and a shouldered bolt that slides through....nut goes on the inside of the shell. Different kind of a setup than I am used to seeing, but kinda neat.

I sent a...

Re: This is the Display Your Rewrapped Vintage Drums Thread

It absolutely is. When I got these I decided I wanted to do something different. I have pearl wraps, and a few sparkle orphans, but no moire or satin flame. I started looking up satin flame and came...

Re: This is the Display Your Rewrapped Vintage Drums Thread

Here is a before and after of my Camcos (12, 12, 14, 20 with snare). I purchased these unfairly cheap from a fella looking to right a debt. 90% of the lugs were there, it was missing two original COB...

Re: Gorgeous Kent drum kit (shell pack) on ebay

I have a set of pre-1960 Kents. I traded a set of Gretsch Catalina Birch shells for them. From the same guy I also inherited a round badge era 24" Gretsch bass drum shell. The Gretsch 2 ply shell is...

Re: Rogers Bread and Butter Help

John,

Thanks much. I have read a lot about different strengthening processes, just hoping to stay away from it because I don't have extras to experiment with. They are the flat top B&B, and I am...

Re: Ludwig's change to lug positioning, 1968?

This is interesting thread. Just in working on my own drums and other drums I have noticed a TON of variation in lug design, and also thought I noticed a difference in location but chalked it up to a...

Re: Where is everyone?

I am here, and avidly collecting and beating the hell out of vintage tubs. Perhaps I can lend some insight from a slightly younger perspective (I am only 40). Every local artist I have talked with...
