Re: Long Time Away

We saw Van Halen in concert around 2008 when they reunited with David Lee Roth. Wolfie was playing bass with the band then. It was hard to tell how good he was, but he certainly didn’t detract from...

Re: In Praise of idrum4fun(Mark)!

And if you haven’t noticed, when things heat up a bit between members, Mark will slide on in and offer conciliatory remarks to each to get things smoothed out a bit. His intent is to quell the...

Re: How I celebrated my 68th birthday!

Mark,
I took the Zostovax vaccine many years ago, but then a few years ago they came out with Shingrix, which is purported to be far more effective in preventing shingles. I had been trying to get...

Re: Star , Model 8256

Brian,
I have an old Pearl snare in blue sparkle wrap that I use when I perform with my PureCussion RIMS set because the Pearl sounds good but is relatively quiet. I don’t have any parts for sale...

Re: How I celebrated my 68th birthday!

Happy belated birthday, Mark. My wife’s birthday is also the 16th. I have no doubt that the good karma that is your staple came back around to save you. May you be a contributor to VDF for many...

Re: Yer Forcing Me…

I know the chrome wrap can be problematic, but not as much as the copper! I guess I am caught up in the memory of going to a high school jazz competition (Reno, perhaps?), where they had a...

Yer Forcing Me…

I don’t need another set of drums, but this just seems too good to pass up…

Mike,
Those are great! Love the Dr. Seuss-inspired cymbal holders on the outdoor photo.

Re: Are They Vintage?

I bought some screw-on vent grommets to put on all of the converted toms. Instead of trying to get them each exactly centered, I just centered them underneath one of the badges and didn’t worry...

Re: Please help to identify this Slingerland snare drum

I had a Slingerland snare from that era and it was single ply. Are you sure yours isn’t? It really cracked and was higher pitched than most other drums I had owned, and it was 6.5” deep.

Re: Are They Vintage?

I got the Slingerland lugs, and guess what? They, too, are too short to cover up the existing holes! There went my plan to place the four non-conforming lugs on the player’s side so they wouldn’t...

Re: Are They Vintage?

Already measured them out. If I used one current hole for mounting, the other hole would be visible below the lug. I am not averse to drilling new holes, but I wouldn’t want any holes to show on...

Re: Are They Vintage?

Thanks, everyone. So far, the 12 and 14 sound pretty good. The 10 is only 6 1/2” deep, so I will have to offset the lugs. I hope it has enough depth so that it doesn’t sound choked. I’ll update...

WTB: Yamaha Lugs

Looking to buy Yamaha lugs like the one pictured. I need four of them, complete with mounting screws, washers and inserts, ideally.

They are about 2 3/8” long.

I would also like to find 8...

Re: Are They Vintage?

[QUOTE[/QUOTE]

Mark,
I couldn’t find any new ones, even from Yamaha. I took them off of the 15 and 16. I am still four short for doing the 10” tom, so I ordered some Slingerland replicas for...

Re: Are They Vintage?

Here are the finished products, at least the 14 and the 12. Still waiting on the hoop for the 10.

Re: Are They Vintage?

Next, I laid out the new lug holes on blue tape instead of the shell wrap. Using a right-angle straight edge, I laid out the location of the line of holes I would need to drill. I checked my work...

Re: Are They Vintage?

The original bearing edges were pretty complex. The slope toward the inside of the drum is about 35 degrees. I do not have, and couldn't find locally, a 35 degree chamfer bit. I decided to go with...

Re: Are They Vintage?

The first order of business (after removing all of the hardware again), was to check the top bearing edge, and the bottom edge that would also become a bearing edge. I started with the 14, and it...
