Re: Big R

Good info from all above. I did notice subsequently that the shells are the same, and thanks for the clarification that the shells changed at XP-8. I had lost track of that.

Re: Big R

I appreciate all the comments on this thread, but the one above got me laughing because I have had so much trouble getting a decent plumber in rural ME that I've been forced to do a lot on my own. I...

Re: Vintage howard snare drum ID help

Just read Mikey's post on the Howard drum and now this one.

That is the first wooden snare drum I had around '65/'66 and it was called a Howard. Mine was black wrap. Sometime later I got a Laboz...

Re: "Howard" snare drum 60s M.I.J.

Mikey,

Kindly upload pictures all around the drum. I'd like to see the strainer.

After a Mastro all plastic snare drum (see photo), I'm pretty sure my first wooden snare drum was a Howard...

Big R

I've yet to have any B&B Rogers or any Big R's. Have any of you used both beavertail sets and Big R, and if so, what do you make of Big R compared to beavertail drums?

I've never like the look of...

Re: This is the Display Your MIJ Drums Thread

I originally posted about this LaBoz kit in mid-April. It's now approaching mid-May and the kit is sort of on its way. Shortly after purchase, this music store had an incident with a gun-wielding...

Re: Rogers WMP Sighting

Here's one that does not appear to have a backing track for 19 Days. But then they all become vocalists with an orchestra behind them.

Dave Clark Five (1966 Royal Performance) 19 Days/ Georgia On...

Re: Oyster Blue

Those oyster and mod wraps look great. Those are tough ones to reproduce, no question about it. I read that the most difficult part is that they cannot use the same materials due to fire hazards...

Re: Rogers WMP Sighting

Interesting. That was probably to put a damper on the rise of the Dave Clark V. Seems very hard to find a true live performance online, yet they were said to have been quite good live.

You can...

Rogers WMP Sighting

Don't you wish they had made backing tracks illegal.

Re: Rogers 14" floor tom sale question

PS - Estimating the blue onyx drum to be from late 1970 to late 1971, but prior to the 9/72 era where the leg mounts changed and the Holiday labels were abandoned.

Re: Slingerland 14x14 Green Sparkle

Yes, different badge by the look of it - 70's maybe. Do you know if the toms would have badges? The Leedy set had badges on all the drums. The snare came from the UK separately. I saw it on line and...

Re: Slingerland 14x14 Green Sparkle

That's the one, if you sent it to the Farm from which I got it. I had a sales advert featuring Frankie Capp with the 20-lug bass - See attached. I do have the seller's remorse, but I didn't have a...

Re: Did Camco drums ever not have vent holes?

I agree with the comments above. They sure look like the Camcos I've had. Nice drums.

One thing to note is that drums built for natural finish aren't always suitable to add wrap without having to...

Re: Elvin Jones' Gretsch Floortom

Even that much is a great back story. Wouldn't we all have loved to see the room where he had all that stuff?

There was something about Elvin's open and normally smiling face that you can sense...

Re: Elvin Jones' Gretsch Floortom

Apologies for misstating the color Kona.

Here's an illustration of one of the situations in which you see an odd floor tom in use. At first it is behind the matching FT and then the matching FT...

Re: Elvin Jones' Gretsch Floortom

Correction to my memory (all too often nowadays). I thought DeCordova was late 80's. Actually early 90's. Sad to see it is a "defunct" venue:

Elvin Jones Jazz Machine
DeCordova Museum
Lincoln,...

Re: Elvin Jones' Gretsch Floortom

It would be interesting to know the back story on why he had that drum.

He was a real dynamo. At the DeCordova, he had a rather young Ravi Coltrane with him. It was a nice outdoor afternoon of...

Not a problem in any event. Easier to add than to delete. Plenty of badges on eBay. Falling Do
