Re: Downbeat vs clubdate

That's a premium price for that shell pack, but I'm glad to see prices like that, anyway. I sold my complete Deluxe Classic kit years ago for just a bit more than that shell pack went for.....

Re: Rogers Drums Are Sturdy and HEAVY

I'd bet that my Arbiter AT kit is heavier than any other drum set in existence....except for maybe the Carl Palmer stainless steel kit! ;)

Re: 1964 Ludwig Pioneer

As far as snare wires.....Mine has the original clear plastic ended ones. I wouldn't change a thing about mine. I feel that the drum is close to perfect as any snare drum I have ever played. It has...

Re: Budget-line drums from the Big Four?

As beautiful as the Rogers budget line kits could be, I think that Ludwig's Standard line hit the bullseye. As far as I know, there wasn't an "answer" to the Standards. It wasn't just that they were...

Re: Downbeat vs clubdate

That's a good looking champagne sparkle Clubdate kit *edit* shell pack, I mean...but I disagree with the listing..."Unmodified".........*psssst...the bass drum was repainted*. It appears they did a...

Re: After 29 years, reacquired my Duplex Spirit of St. Louis set!

I have that exact hi-hat stand. Mine is marked "WAMCO" (William & Auge Manufacturing Company...or something like that!). I never saw the clutch to one before, though. Mine just had some old...

Re: After 29 years, reacquired my Duplex Spirit of St. Louis set!

This drum kit is one of the best examples of just how beautiful a kit can be without traditional lugs. To me, it looks ultra clean and super modern -even by today's standards of modern. And yet, it's...

Re: After 29 years, reacquired my Duplex Spirit of St. Louis set!

What kind of pedal do you use with that bass drum and how does it attach to the rim?

Re: Budget-line drums from the Big Four?

Wow that's a beautiful Rogers kit, leedybdp! I've always admired the look of Rogers' blue sparkle over other blue sparkles...don't know what it is...slightly different hue or something...but wow,...

Re: Budget-line drums from the Big Four?

Also...forgot about the Ludwig Clubdate kit....budget.

Man! Ludwig had ALL kinds of options for getting SOME kind of drum set or singular drum under the sticks of drummers out there! Maybe that...

Budget-line drums from the Big Four?

The Kent thread got me thinking about this...

I'm curious as to which era of drum manufacturing created the "best, low-budget" stuff. I guess I should restrict my query to American-made drums. For...

Re: Gorgeous Kent drum kit (shell pack) on ebay

I see it now on second look! Thanks!

And thanks, Marty for the reminder of the clip-on bass drum tom mount option....totally forgot about those! But, yes, that would explain things!

Re: Anyone Playing Out/Doing Any Live Work?

Cool, Tommy!

I have not been playing out OR in. I have reprioritized my time for all the things I couldn't get done when I was playing...working on the house...family stuff...catching up on all...

Re: Gorgeous Kent drum kit (shell pack) on ebay

Nice kit....but was the "mounted" tom originally supposed to be mounted on a snare stand? I see no brackets anywhere on the bass drum or the tom....Interesting.

Re: Mystery Drums - Identification

I don't know exactly what brand they are....likely a "stencil" kit derived from the Pearl or Tama factory. I'm almost 1000% sure they are not American made.

Re: Downbeat vs clubdate

There was a Downbeat snare drum that was, (not coincidently), a matched component of the Downbeat kit. This snare drum differentiated the Downbeat kit from other kits....for awhile.
That was back...

Re: Downbeat vs clubdate

I'm almost certain that, in a dark room, with all other things being equal (heads, sticks, player, etc.), I wouldn't be able to tell a Clubdate from a Downbeat...and certainly, in the context of...

Re: Downbeat vs clubdate

I've never played a Clubdate kit but I would think that they SHOULD be a bit more open and resonant due to the fact that there is less metal attached to the shell. However...having said that, it...

Re: Ludwig Club Date

If you had the matching floor tom, then it would be a kit that you could trade-up on in the future, and fully enjoy, in the meantime. I love that buttery yellowed look, myself, but it would really be...

Re: I'll break the ice: Rob Cook's Rogers book

One other thought that occurred to me that I want to share is in regards to "the business" that apparently became the demise of Rogers....

In the old days, I think the "fight" was mainly between...
