Re: Bass Drum Spurs Slingerland Late HHS/Gibson Era

Here are some pictures of my 1994 HSS Slingerland set. The spurs and brackets use the "Mickey Mouse" ears-style thumb screws, but I believe the bass drum brackets might be the same as yours.

Re: Bass Drum Spurs Slingerland Late HHS/Gibson Era

Hi Mutant!

You might want to check out the Gibraltar SC-BS4 spurs. They use a 4-bolt pattern... 2-7/16" center-to-center top-to-bottom and 1-3/4" center-to-center side-to-side. I found those specs...

Re: After 29 years, reacquired my Duplex Spirit of St. Louis set!

I have a feeling the "white line" is just a reflection from the light between the curtain and wood frame behind the kit. The rail consolette appears to be bolted to the metal batter hoop. I hope the...

Re: Budget-line drums from the Big Four?

Hey O-Lugs! An interesting topic to ponder!

Slingerland had the Stage Band, which was very similar to the Ludwig Club Date; using the same shells, but with center mounted lugs to keep the cost a...

Re: Gorgeous Kent drum kit (shell pack) on ebay

It's a nice set of Kent drums. However, everything for sale by this seller is always overpriced. Take a moment to look at his other drum-related items and you'll see what I mean. His feedback doesn't...

Re: MIJ Sighting

Hey Dan!

I also noticed the capture screw on the muffler was backwards! Let's hope it stays put during shipping!

Re: MIJ Sighting

I would also have to agree with Dan about how these drums can sound. As proof, I present another Pearl-made Whitehall set I had some years ago. Also built in 1968 with thin 3-ply shells with...

Reading the description, it seems like he made the cymbal rod with threaded end.

Re: MIJ Sighting

It can certainly take some work, and $$$, to make them sound good! The other issue with this kit is the missing tension rods and hoops. The rods are metric and can be difficult to source. And, I...

Re: MIJ Sighting

I found the exact set in the 1968 Pearl catalog. It's the No. 45 Challenger Outfit. Very cool!

Re: MIJ Sighting

What a cool MIJ kit! I noticed they are called "Capitan" and not "Captain". Still, it's a stencil name I've not heard before!

This was built by Pearl and the Rogers-style tone control date the set...

Re: Slingerland Snare Date and Drum Brand

Hi Ken!

Your snare drum is from the end of Slingerland production at the Niles factory in Chicago. The serial number dates it to around 1985. I believe the last drums were produces around 1986....

Re: Something Different!!

Wow! Definitely different! A lot of skill went into cutting the "flames". Care would need to be taken during transport! Pretty cool kit, though!
