Re: Ludwig Drum Heads

They are still making 14" snare side and batter heads. Remo is supplying everything else.

Re: Transition badged Super Ludwig imposter?

So if you don't make much of the back side of the grommet, what about the front side? Ever seen a grommet like that from the front? I suspect you won't find a single one.

I have looked at all of...

Re: Transition badged Super Ludwig imposter?

That doesn't address the appearance of the hole for the grommet being too large.

Re: Transition badged Super Ludwig imposter?

I do find it odd that the grommet hole appears to be slightly larger than the spacer for the grommet. It might just be lighting but it looks very much that way. As far as I know the grommets were...

Re: Transition badged Super Ludwig imposter?

I went back and added a note to my post to clarify my stance on this particular drum.

The term fake has different meanings. If you take a later brass shell, hammer some beds into it, put on an...

Re: Transition badged Super Ludwig imposter?

Well, one way or another, that is not the original grommet in my opinion. Once you pull the grommet, you open yourself up for an uphill battle proving it is "all original".

The drum may be the...

Re: Premier Drums

I have never played any of the Resonators but it never sounded like a good idea. All of my Premiers are the non Resonator variety and I like them very much.

When Neil Peart was looking to...

Re: Premier Drums

Those would have been Resonators which the earliest catalog that lists them that I have seen is '75.

Re: Removing Dents from COB Snare Drum Shell

Those are clearly from having been dropped on a couple of lugs.

The smaller dents probably don't include any metal stretching. That big dent, may very well have stretched the metal. If it is...

Re: Transition badged Super Ludwig imposter?

In my opinion, that grommet is not original and the crimping is incorrect so I'd say it is definitely very suspect. I don't want to give too many details, because I don't want it easier for someone...

Re: Ringo's cymbals in new Get Back documentary

Ringo kept and used the same BOP snare for all five drum kits he had through his entire time with the Beatles. When he came to the US for the first time, they had pre-ordered a new BOP downbeat set...

Re: Removing Dents from COB Snare Drum Shell

The methods listed will work to different degrees and one person may get the dent out while another using the same method may make it worse. There are too many variables to say any one method will...

Re: Questions on Ludwig snare wires

I would add that there were at least three colors. Clear, white and blue. Based on the artwork in the early WFL catalogs that they continued to reuse into the early 60s, I believe they were...

Re: Questions on Ludwig snare wires

That patent was filed in 1945 and awarded in 1950 so that at least gives the time frame of when that style was invented. I really don't know when they started using them. I have seen them on drums...

Re: Vintage as Vintage Can Be

It is still very nice, especially given how nice that rare wrap is.

Drilling those and putting those modern screw in grommets is a real shame. The only reason I can think someone would do...

Re: Vintage as Vintage Can Be

There were originally 15 commandments. 11 through 15 were drum related. Fortunately Moses had a bit of an accident so it's all good.

Re: Premier Drums

Premier never really caught on here. I have heard that the company had a lot of management problems over the years and never really had any solid distribution in the States. Ultimately they shut down...

Re: Premier Drums

As far as Tom placement, they made extensions to allow better placement. I see them on eBay pretty often. Might be worth keeping an eye out for one.. Despite what this guy says, they are not that...

Re: Premier Drums

The Whitehall's are cool, but the Premiers are much better drums by a huge margin.

Re: Premier Drums

They are early to mid 60's. Three ply Birch with Beech Re-rings.

The rack tom is definitely a pre-international sized shell. I can tell because it has a triple flange hoop instead of the...

Re: What were the most innovative designs from each vintage company?

The "Camco" pedal was designed and manufactured by a company named Martin. They called it the Fleetfoot pedal. It had the cam and leather strap. They made the pedal for several years, although there...

Re: Dresdner Apparate Marching Snaredrum

I have no idea, but I would say that you should not attempt to clean or polish that drum in any way. The patina is so perfectly even that I would suggest getting a set of calf skin heads and gut...

Re: Where is everyone?

I think that vintage drums will always be prized for their different sound and character, although they might be appreciated by smaller and smaller numbers of professionals.

Consider the fact...
