Re: It's a Holiday holiday...update

I saved a whole kit put together of mid 60's Gretsch and Ludwig Club Date drums that were all painted black and missing the reso heads! I've found lonely orphans to round out and complete each set so...

Re: Ludwig WMP

Huh, didn't know that. I stumbled into the bulk of my 1965 Club Date kit for free but it's a Pioneer snare with the 12 and 14 toms. I'm picking up a BD to go with them tomorrow.

This is another...

Re: RepRo Red Ripple wRap?

Looks good! How is Bumwrap? I've heard conflicting things and I've heard a few horror stories about the digital print not turning out the best quality and regular "printing glitches".

RepRo Red Ripple wRap?

Anyone know of a source for a repro of the old Red Ripple wrap that Slingerland and Rogers used in the 60's? I really would love to rewrap my next kit restore in RR.

I looked through Delmar's...

Re: Vintage Ludwig bearing edges

Sounds like that shell missed an important step in the manufacturing process!

Re: Gretsch RB, what heads are you using?

Floor tom done!

Mostly vintage hardware on it with a few repro pieces here and there. I'm digging the Aquarians so far, nice tone to them. When I finished tuning ti up I just had to set up a...

Re: Putting Drummers in Plexiglass Cages

I guess that's not working out too well for them either anymore. Maybe just power like that over other people is enough to corrupt.

Re: Putting Drummers in Plexiglass Cages

I've seen so many people in the church get so used to the certainty of their faith that it bleeds over into feeling absolutely certain about everything they think. They start to believe that every...

Re: Costs and Covid-19

Well, demand has gone up for all kinds of hobby hardware, especially musical instruments, since quarantines and people isolating have become more popular. A lot of people reconnecting with old...

Re: Putting Drummers in Plexiglass Cages

I found out he was drawing multiple salaries from the church, he was forcing the missions leader to push a third of the missions budget to a mission he was on the board for (and drawing another...

Re: Putting Drummers in Plexiglass Cages

Churches want all the thrill of live music but are absolutely terrified of volume. They want a full and live band but at the volume and consistency of listening to a CD in a coffee shop. I worked...

Re: Putting Drummers in Plexiglass Cages

Yes. I worked in churches doing a lot of AV/tech work for years and was very involved in worship bands at a few camps and several churches for years. I built sound systems and trained people to run...

Re: Putting Drummers in Plexiglass Cages

As a drummer, the open ones weren't bad but the closed in ones were horrible.

As a sound engineer, they work well and really help the drums from bleeding over into every other mic and drowning...

Re: good resource for 60's Zildjians?

It's great if you're trying to date cymbals or even value them a bit but it's a bit thin on history, particularly the 60's.

Were K's just made in Constantinople during the 60's while the Avedis...

Re: good resource for 60's Zildjians?

This is the stamp on the 20" ride. The majority of these came to me with a 62' Slingerland and the owner received the drums and the cymbals at the same time (Bar Mitzvah).

good resource for 60's Zildjians?

I have a bunch of Zildjians from the 60's and I'd like to learn a bit more about them. I think they're all A's but I'm not sure how to tell and all I see about old Zildjians is purely about old K's....

Re: Rogers fans rejoice! It's a Holiday holiday!

Tell me about it! My first kit was a 62 Slingerland Krupa in Blue Sparkle. Got it from the neighbor down the street in exchange for mowing his lawn all summer, complete with the full set of...

Re: Rogers fans rejoice! It's a Holiday holiday!

That's too bad for the students! We just used old Pearl Forum kits when I was in Jazz Band in HS in the 90's. I would've loved to play around on an old Rogers Holiday kit!

Re: Gretsch RB, what heads are you using?

Ah yes, the bass drum, the one drum I'm not putting any of these heads on! I already have a Super Kick II on the batter and I'm trying a couple different reso heads to find something that fits the...

Re: Repurposed 66 Pioneer snare

I have a Pioneer from that same era too! It needs a top to bottom restore as the pervious owner painted the shell, inside and out, with black house paint. I never know what color to go for ith...

Re: Rogers fans rejoice! It's a Holiday holiday!

I'd unload the Ludwig tom, search for a matching floor tom and restore it as a slow burn project. My Gretsch RB kit has been a slow burn restore and I'm a few years into it.
