Rogers sightings, mid-60s

Things have been quiet for a couple days, so here's something for Rogers buffs...

Some of you may remember a rather forgettable teeny-bopper band in the mid-60s called "Dino, Desi, and Billy."

Re: Vintage drum heads play or save?

I'm no expert, but if you are going to play this kit, I'd change out the heads for something new. Save the originals for when you eventually sell it. I once had a 1958 Ludwig kit with the early...

Re: Slingerland buffs - Fresno, CA craigslist

Question: Are those Black Chrome drums heavy? I'm guessing that they have a steel or aluminum wrap? Sorry to ask a stupid question, but I'm unfamiliar with black-chrome.

Thanks in advance, mb

Re: How have your drum sets evolved over the years?

I've gone pretty much "full circle"....

1966 Bought a 2-up, 1-down Kent kit, new in Champagne Sparkle. Wanted Ludwigs, but couldn't afford them. I think they were 20, 12, 13, 14 with matching...

Please guys, we can't afford to have anyone drop out of the VDF. We're all here because we love discussing vintage drums. Let's stick to that.

Before we hit the SEND button, let's all proofread...

Re: Well I did it champagne for

What I would recommend, from using a single pair of disappearing spurs on a kit, is:

1. Attach the kick drum pedal. Make sure you've got the base of the pedal centered between the bottom two...

Re: Canister Drum Thrones

Thanks for all that info, leedybdp. Very interesting.

Looking at ebay, there are a couple later-production canister thrones listed, but they are far more money than I'm willing to pay. Still,...

Re: Canister Drum Thrones

I've never seen a canister throne up close - only in photos. Was there a standard height that all the manufacturers used? Or did the manufacturers have their own particular height? Just curious -...

Re: Well I did it champagne for

I've got two "Hollywood" kits, one with the disappearing spurs (1968) and one with the gull-wings (1966). The disappearing spurs (only 1 pair of them, not two) definitely hold the bass drum more...

Re: Rogers Holiday

Re: the COB snare, the red felt "baseball bat" muffler (P-4067) was used on COB snares beginning in 1961. I own several. The construction of the bottom (COB) hoop dates it to no later than 1964....

Re: Rogers Holiday

That's a gorgeous Rogers kit, but I am no expert on them. We'll have to wait for the Rogers buffs to chime in.

In regards to the Ludwig snare, it does appear to be a genuine 1961-1963 COB "Super...

Re: The worst thing that happened to vintage drums

Fer shur! And how about those bass drums that have been painted black on the inside? Super cool?!

Actually, something that bothers me just as much, that is not decade-specific, is the...

Hi guys, I'm still laughing over leedybdp's comment about the 1990 Yugo! :-)

In regards to Salty1322's question about Kents, a look at Dennis Brown's book tells us that Kent's 1968 catalog was...

Re: Help identifying Ludwig hi-hat stand

That's great, thanks K.O. I had never seen an 1123-1 with the late 1970s-early 1980s(?) black plastic handles. Rob Cook's Ludwig book mentions that they had breakage problems with those plastic...
