Re: Speed King bearings

A plug for Vincent Leef, who bought the Speed King tune-up business from that Jesse fellow (I forget his last name).

Vincent makes minor changes in the Speed King to remove the squeaks. All 4 of...

And....I forgot to mention, that pedal is from the mid-70s or later. The "spacer/support tab" at the bottom front of the "goal posts" - that abut the wooden bass drum hoop is the shorter version. ...

Re: Speed King bearings

Yeah, they're the real deal.

Soak them overnight in a jar with mineral spirits and get all the dried gunk out of them, until they spin fast. Rub down the push rods with 0000 steel wool until...

Jim Petty, JP2 Creations - is he still around?

Say guys,

On August 10th, I mailed a check to Jim Petty at JP2 Creations for a long Ludwig hi-hat rod. As of today, the check still hasn't been deposited.

On September 30th, I sent an email to...

Re: 70's Ludwig Super Sensitive Black Beauty - Need SS mechanism

And as Mark mentioned above in regards to the snare-side head, the Ludwig part number is C1114. I dunno if Ludwig has more than one type of snare-side head, but the C1114 will work great on a SS. ...

Re: Where is everyone?

A related discussion...I wonder what the future holds for vintage drum collecting. Will we go the way of coin and stamp collecting that our parent's generation enjoyed?...Hobbies that have died off. ...

"Fever" - That is an amazing performance by the drummer! And those drums sound great! I am not a hand percussionist - I refuse to buy a cajon. But let me ask - does anyone think he is...

Citrus Mod: now you see it, now you don't

Say guys, did any of you see that "1 of only 2 made" Citrus Mod Jazz Festival snare on ebay yesterday morning (Sep 19th)?

I made a mental note to forward it onto the VDF later that morning, but...

Re: KENT drums

I ordered the new Kent book on Aug 29, but it wasn't mailed until Sep 8. A bit frustrating.

It's softbound, 116 pages long, full of anecdotes, color photos of Kent kits and catalogues. And it...

Re: This is the Display Your Ludwig Drum Thread

Gorgeous kit, hawghunter! In high school, the drummer who won the local "Battle of the Bands" competition had this kit, and I envied it and him. I loved the Burgundy Sparkle and also Pink...

I'm not sure I belong to DFO, because I don't visit a DFO website, but I do get an email blast every 2 weeks or so. It is entitled Drum Forum (DrumForum.org), and it appears to be highlights of the...

"Count Me In" drum documentary on Netflix

Hi guys,

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet. A 2021 documentary-of-sorts on the origins of rock drumming. "Count Me In" on Netflicks, directed and produced by Mark Lo. 1 1/2 hours...

Two more memories of the Kent factory. After I got my driver's license, I went back there a few times - to buy replacement snare throw-off assemblies. I was inept at tuning, and in my attempts to...

Ringo's signature was part of the deal. Only 15 Starrfest drums produced. Gary Astridge (Ringo's drum historian) has a photo poster of Ringo's original 1963 Jazzfest that has a genuine Ringo...

Re: This is the Display Your Ludwig Drum Thread

Ha! Mark - I gotcha beat big time for spending lotsa money on a snare drum! I've got a "Starrfest," number 2 of 15. $30,000. It's gorgeous, of course, very professionally done, but I don't think...

Re: Dave Clark 5 (English) Rogers kit 1964

Well, photos can certainly be deceiving! Here is our answer, from the 1964 Rogers catalogue. Standard "American" sizes. The englishrogersdrums.co.uk website has a handful of 1960s catalogues...

Re: Dave Clark 5 (English) Rogers kit 1964

Yeah, Dave Clark always had his toms mounted "in reverse" or "backwards" or whatever you wanna call it. The guy on the far left - lead singer Mike Smith was about 6'1", so that does seem to indicate...

Dave Clark 5 (English) Rogers kit 1964

Say, what do you guys think those drum sizes are? - 20, 12, 14, and probably 16" floor tom?

With those single and angled rods supporting the mounted toms, I would think they would really bounce if...

Re: This is the Display Your Ludwig Drum Thread

Say, in regards to that black prototype snare, it has some grime and old fingerprints on the wrap that I'd like to clean off, but I'm wary of using any kind of abrasive that may scratch or otherwise...
