Re: Ludwig Standard Granitone Questions

I never heard the whole point of Resocoat or Granitone was not so they could use different types of wood and they'd all match up?
WFL2 told me it was because the wood didn't look good, not for...

Re: [B]1936-39 LUDWIG 6.5 x 14 “BUTTERSCOTCH PEARL” (uncatalogued) SUPER-LUDWIG MODEL

I don't know if this drum pictured is "yellowed" WMP, but I'm pretty sure it's not what we call Butterscotch, unless the color in the pic is tinted or altered?

Re: [B]1936-39 LUDWIG 6.5 x 14 “BUTTERSCOTCH PEARL” (uncatalogued) SUPER-LUDWIG MODEL

I own, and have seen, a fair amount of "Butterscotch" drums.
The finish is browner than the drum shown here.
The top line drums are found in one outfit, 26-15-11 and a standard snare, not a super....

Re: Chicago Drum Show 2021

Apparently some people are already announcing my presence at the Chicago Show!
I'll be there if:
1. Illinois covid rates drop and the State Of Illinois allows more than 25-50 customers in at a...

Re: Re 70's Ludwig Supraphonic w/silver badge

Ludwig did not sell factory seconds before 1999 that I'm aware of?
And, if the drums were factory seconds, they likely would have been disassembled and the bad parts scrapped.
That's what they did...

Re: Re 70's Ludwig Supraphonic w/silver badge

You're thinking way too deeply KO.
Maybe there's not a LOT of silver badged drums around is they only got used for one day, or by one worker, til an inspector caught the error?
I'd opine the...

Re 70's Ludwig Supraphonic w/silver badge

After reading the theories and conjecture about silver badges, from deep thinkers like myself (and others), I emailed a former Ludwig employee.
Here's the short version:
1. There were always...

Re: BS&T, Colomby and Rogers

I'd bet the heads were original.
They were almost black with use.
BTW; I used my 1966 Rogers kit on our first two albums, and it had all the original bottom heads still on it (and they stayed on...

Re: BS&T, Colomby and Rogers

The set still had original heads on it. We swapped out the heads and the kit functioned fine.
Bobby had other cool kits at home. He had a wood Slingy set with an 18" bass drum in his practice room....

Re: Ludwig super sensitive brass shell info needed

The tone control is 1965-68.
If the shell is brass it could be as old as late 1920's.
The snare throw off appears to be late 1920's-30's, but the hoops look same age as the tone control, mid...

Re: Another eBay Bargain

Too much? Find another one then.....(I owned a BG set and snare drum 35 years ago.)
Chet Falzerano would be the guy to ask/consult about this drum. Chet's the expert imo.
The price seems in line...

Re: 192X ludwig Standard Snare-Muffler?

If it was a 30's snare drum it would have an "hour glass" strainer, not a 20's strainer....was the point I was making?
Are you saying they replaced a 30's strainer with an older strainer? ...
