Value of an Early - Mid 70's Sound King Snare Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Continuing my Festival vs Sound King thoughts, wondering what the value is of a good (not great) Sound King snare is these days. I have my Festival that I am working on and the hardware/hoops are quite nice but the shell shows signs of pitting...can't clean that well enough to make acceptable.

My thought is to pick up a Sound King snare shell and the Zoomatic Strainer/Butt end and then take the lugs and hoops from my Festival and complete the SK.

Once done, will that snare be worth enough to justify killing the Festival and having to buy the strainer/butt and shell?

Other than buying collectable condition snares, I always like to know that if I have to sell one, that it will be able to fetch at least what I invested, if not more.

Thanks much.

You can usually pick up a complete original 5x14 SK for $120 to $180 off eBay.

Your project, as you have described it will yield you a pieced-together SK, which if disclosed (and should be to potential buyers) will negatively impact the value.

Better off to just buy a complete one, and try to get the best price you can for your purchase.

Sell the Festival if you wish, to offset the cost you incurr for your SK purchase.

The whole thing of it is, to me, that when we start pulling parts from an original drum to build another, we now have two unoriginal drums instead of one, and that deprives someone down the road of the opportunity to purchase an unadulterated piece of history.

Just my two cents here..... it' worth whatever to whomever

That's a very good point! I agree and will stick to cleaning up my Festival.

Thanks for the opinion!
