Hi all,
I've been looking into getting the parts to do a Rogers Swivomatic bass-to-tom mount set up for an early '60s Ludwig project. (Don't worry, no original unmolested shells will be drilled in this project.)
Before buying anything, however, there are some things related to the hardware that I've come across and wanted to check with you.
I understand that you can tell an early '60s mount from a later '60s by two ways. First, the colett is turned steel on the early and cast metal on the later. Second, the washers are large flat washers on the early and star washers on the later.
But I've also noticed some differences on the early versions in terms of where the "Rogers" stamp is located. Some have the stamp exactly in the middle between the top carriage bolt and the riser where the support rod goes. Others have the stamp located right near the carriage bolt. Has anyone noticed that and does one version over the other signify an earlier model?
Regarding the angle of the mount neck, I see there are 90-, 60- and 45-degree versions. I'm assuming the 90 is for the tom. I've also seen it used on the top of the bass drum, but it looks like that's a bit of a strain to make the required angle and that really the mount on the bass should have an angle cast into it. My question is whether that should be the 45 or the 60?
And finally, was there a standard length on the hex rods that go into both the tom and the bass? From the stuff I've been seeing online, it looks like the tom rod is about 6" long and the bass rod is about 10".
As always, any guidance is appreciated.
