Hey Everyone. My name is DRUMGUY1988 and This is my first post on the vintage Drum forum and I hope this is the right place for this post.
I need some help to figure out what year or approximately what year and Line my Ludwig's are. About a month and a bit ago I bought a 3 piece set of old Ludwig drums off of kijiji for and I'm kidding about this, $40.00 Canadian. The lady had no idea what she had and She just wanted to get rid of them. I have know idea what year they are cause the badges are missing. All I know is that it is a Blue and Olive Badge kit. you can still see the out line of the badge on all the drums. The sizes are 22 X 14. 12 X 8, and 16 X 16. No idea If there was ever a 13 X 9 tom but I am adding a 14 X 10 to use as my rack tom. All The shells are 3 ply mahogany, poplar, and maple with re-ring. The outer wrap is Red and Pink Champagne Sparkle. The Bass Drum and Floor Tom have the Large Super Classic Lugs and the 12 tom has the small classic lugs. There were a few surprises with this kit. Someone mounted PEARL BD Spurs over top of the original Ludwig Spurs holes. In doing so they drilled 4 extra holes into the bass drum. Now normally I would have plugged these holes with wooden dowels but That would have met patching or possibly replacing the section of wrap. Which I didn't want to do cause the wrap is in great shape. So I installed air hole grommets into the extra holes. I did manage to acquire a set of Ludwig BD spurs. They are the 1/2 inch style spur which came off of a 90's LUDWIG BD. I'm pretty sure the original spurs were 5/16. It was all I could get, the price was good, and they fit perfectly.
So far I've cleaned and Restored the BD and FT. The 12 X 8 and the 14 X 10 are next.
I'm guessing this kit is Between 35 and 40 years old. If it is that would put it between 1970 and 1975. It is B/O Badge I'm certain of that. You can see the out line of the badge in the pic of the 12 tom. If anyone can shed some more light on this like maybe what year It may have been built or what line of LUDWIGS they might be would be a great help to me. Thank you in advance. DRUMGUY1988.
