Picked-up a set of BDP Club Dates on Wednesday (12/22) as a little Christmas/birthday present for myself. I was actually responding to a local craigslist ad for a Ludwig green sparkle snare which turned out to be nothing (rewrap and missing parts) but the guy had this set sitting in the corner. So I asked if he would be interested in selling the set thinking he would not. Sure enough, SOLD! It isn’t perfect but everything is there and the wrap is in nice shape. Someone along the line removed the rail consolette and added a diamond plate mount on the bass drum; they at least did a nice job. The bass drum and mounted tom have the white painted interior and are close in serial numbers and date stamps (Oct. 23 & 24, 1967). The floor tom however, has the natural lacquered wood interior and the serial number is about 100k later than the bass drum and mounted tom. All-in-all I’m happy and can’t wait to get them shined up. As you can see, I’ve already added my “shield of approval” lol!

Stunning! Isn't CL something.......I purchased a '66 club date just 4 days ago off of eBay, and just a few hours where I live. I decided on a day to go pick them up, and thought I would check out CL and see what was up in that city....BINGO.....'65 Super classic with all the options......all original down to the cowbell and holder (cymbals included)! What steered me in the direction of purchase, was they come with the original cases, so I know they were taken care of (less fade at least). When I asked the date stamps, and serial numbers I hit the floor....seems this kit was made on the day I was born! Have been searching for 34 years for this opportunity! I pick them up in 4 days and will post the pics....oh and by the way, they are for sale! 6 million ought to cover it!

Surface, I can’t wait to see pics of your CL findings. I actually find myself looking at CL more often than eBay. It’s frustrating though when the CL deals slip through your hands…a few weeks ago a guy (I’m thinking maybe a teenager) had a listing on CL titled “double drum set for sale”. I opened it up and pictured was a black import Argent drum set with some junk cymbals but mixed in with it was a silver sparkle Superclassic I think around ’65. Also included was a shell mount cymbal holder, speed king, and flat based snare and cymbal stands. Oh, and not to mention a Supraphonic snare with original case and vintage Zildjian hi-hats and ride. All in good condition. The asking price?? $200!!!! And that was negotiable!! What a steal!!! I stumbled upon the ad roughly 4 hours after it was up, emailed the guy, and I was already 3rd in line to go and check it out. Unfortunately, the #1 inquiry got it. I was pretty bummed for a few days after that. A week later that silver sparkle set, snare, and Zildjians showed up on eBay and the new seller made a fortune.

Know too well superclassic! Wish there was a way to hook 120 volts up through email, to give them a little jolt to respond. Guess when you don't know what you are selling, you just are not that interested in it as much. As far as CL with me, I have done very well (but takes leg work)....and this time it really paid off! My day job is a service technician, so my job takes me all over the world. The beauty of it is if I have a trip scheduled in the US, I take a look at the city (on CL) I am flying in to, and the city I will be doing work in also. If I happen to run across a DEAL. Try this the next time you see a DEAL...tell the guy you are willing to offer more than the asking price.....you have a good shot at being the first to see the item, and really....does it matter if you would have paid $250, instead of the $200???

BTW, my recent CL deals have been:

Thanksgiving traveling to Colorado Springs...71/72 Ludwig 12,13,16,22 Blue Oyster, with Slingy COB Radio (sold for $300), 14 Zildjian hats, 16 Zildjian crash, and 20" zildjian ride....stands, throne...extras...$450

Work in Texas:

1970 Ludwig Supraphonic....with one pit! All original in the case... $150

Can't wait until I get scheduled out of state again!...lol
