maufacturer of fibes shells.....

Loading...

I'm beginning to work on the Fibes set I picked up a week ago.

Was wondering, does anyone know who made the clear acrylic shells

for Fibes?? Could it be R C I ? They're a current vendor for

the acrylic drum shells. Were Fibes the first drum company to offer

acrylic shells, or was Ludwig??

I'm thinking Martin made them...

And I think Zicko's were the 1st...in 69 or 70...

Then Ludwig in 72...

Glenn!

No... more than just interesting... FABULOUS! I knew the complete back story on Bob Grauso and John Morena, as well as the Fibes ownership/production timeline, just didn't have the time to respond in that much detail. The MD article says it all! Nicely done Glenn!

I've got 4 Fibes acrylic kits with one more on it's way.... great drums and way better than the one Vistalite kit I have.

About a year ago I noticed a really nice black acrylic SFT Fibes snare being sold by RCI on Ebay and I've enquired about getting a new RCI shell drilled for Fibes lugs (coke bottle green.... coolest color ever!) and was told they have the correct spacing patterns ready to go. Maybe RCI learnt a little something about building acrylic shells from all this pioneering work done by the Zickos/Fibes guys?

Thanks Tommy it was a old link I had saved. I really like the acrylic drums. Always wanted one ever since my bud got a new Ludwig Vista kit back in the early 70's. And of course seeing Billy Cobham with his Fibes kit too. I have looked for a timeline history on RCI. But came up empty. The website was made back in 2004. Anyone know how long they have been around? There used to be a nice Vista website but seems defunct now the link no longer works. Had a lot of good info and cool pics.

I was cleaning and polishing the 14" rack tom tonight and found

an engraved number toward the edge of the shell. It was the

same number as the number on the badge. Guessing this is

the way of Fibes ID'ing their shells. These are cleaning up

very well. Went over the shell with Maguire's headlight/plastic

cleaner, am going to pickup some Novus #2 at the yamaha dealer

early next week to finish the process.
