Ludwig Kit: Bearing Edge Question Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Loading...

Hello All,

This kit has been on my local Craigslist a while and I'm getting an urge to check it out:

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/msg/5147760510.html

My initial thought would be to make the concert toms into regular double headed toms, but I wasn't sure if Ludwig cut bearing edges on concert toms like I believe Slingerland did. I can easily drill holes for lugs and have plenty of spare hardware but if I need to budget for getting edges recut it will figure into how much it will cost to finish up.

I'd also probably rewrap.... not sure if that is the original finish. I haven't contacted the seller yet.

Also any opinions on the value and overall worthiness of these as a rescue project would be welcome.

Thx,

Peter

re the "worthiness", on single headed drums, the side with no head is often out of round. You may wanna do some measuring before purchasing.

And, the shell may not hold a head once it's wrapped. Unwrapped shells are sometimes made a bit bigger than wrapped shells.
