I spent yesterday cleaning the chrome parts for the 1964 Super Classic project I'm working on. As I was doing the hoops for the rack and floor toms, I noticed the top and bottom hoops on each were pressed differently.
I'm assuming this is the difference between chrome over brass and chrome over steel. Here are two shots. The first is brass (non-magnetic); the second is steel.

Chrome over steel
So, naturally, that got me to wondering the following:
[LIST]
[*]Am I correct that they are both Ludwig rims from the '60s, and the difference in shape is just the difference in brass versus steel? Or, do I have a mixture of various years?
[*]Should all the hoops be the same metal or were they originally mixed at the factory? If the former, what is correct for an April '64 kit, brass or steel? If the latter, does it matter which type is used with which head? Right now I've got the brass ones on the batter head end and the steel ones on the resonant end, which is how I got the kit.

I'm hoping what I have is correct, but somehow I think this story ends with me trying to track down a 13" and 16" COB set of hoops.
Thanks for any input.
