So I never really thought I would sell this drum, but I have had some substantial life changes in recent months and need to liquidate a few drum assets.
This is a rare early 80's Bronze supraphonic snare drum size 6.5x14. This spun seamless bronze shell is in a class of its own.
If you're looking at this drum you probably know it is a remarkable workhorse of a snare, both live and in the studio. This bronze shelled beauty is a beefy, warm, tone filled snare. It sounds great cranked up and crackin' or tuned down low, fat and beefy. It's pretty similar to the black beauty snare drums I have played except I think the bronze sounds even better tuned down low for a big rock sound. These older Ludwig shells are getting pretty hard to come by. It's my understanding they are more sought after for their slightly thicker shells.
Now this drum started its life as a super sensitive but was factory transitioned to a Supraphonic snare system. Fairly certain this was a factory change as they put grommets in the extra holes and did a really good job of swapping it over.
The only issues worth noting are a couple minor dents in the shell (only one I could really get a picture of) and a 2 inch hole/tear in the bottom head. In other words, the bottom head will likely need to be replaced. The top head is about 5 years old and could use a replacement. I have a new Evans genera dry lying around I could throw on there instead. Just let me know which you would prefer. The lugs and hardware have only very minor pitting. Very common of a drum of this age.
Really for being a 30 year old "vintage" drum it is in good solid shape. No pitting, rusting or dark spots.
PM or email with questions or to purchase. A local sale of course would be preferred. I'm in the North Seattle area.
