Ludwig 1123 Spur Lok question. Last viewed: 1 day ago

Hi folks,

I picked up a nice Ludwig hi-hat stand recently.

The stand looks fine but it seems to have a problem.

The metal rod that goes into the "heel section" doesn't seem to lock.

When inserted, it goes right through the hole and won't fix itself.

Could it be that it's worn out ?

I never had a Ludwig Spur Lok hi-hat stand in my hands before so I might do something wrong here.

Any suggestions, help or an easy fix.

Thanks!

Hey Stef,

I actually have 2 stands just like that and both of them have the rod fixed into the heel. I can swivel the rod left or right, but it does not come out or push through. Hopefully one of the real pro's here can tell you if you are missing a piece or if it can be fixed. I think I may have an extra foot plate here with a rod in it if you end up needing it. I can send it to ya. Let me know!

It is supposed to be held in place by the hinge pin which should fit into that depression in the rod.

can you see part of the hinge pin when you look into the hole?

I have one that is pretty loose but does not come out.

The hole could be worn but it doesn't look like it from the one picture.

The rod looks OK. The hinge pin could be worn but it would be more likely that the hole is worn.

Thanks for the offered help.

I can see the hinge pin when I look in the hole.

I can slide the rod into the hole. (can't believe I just wrote that,..:p)

Anyway, it can only be inserted when the "heel section" is flat on the floor, other words, the player-position.

I can see how it should work but it seems to me that the pin is turned.

When the heel section is in the player-position, the depression in the hole should fit in the hinge pin and lock the rod.

Is that correct ?

That is correct if I am following you correctly.

I would cut some strips of an aluminum can. Put the rod in the hole so it is oriented correctly and then put strips in the hole opposite the hinge pin until it is tight. If this works you could keep it like that or pull them back out and use a little JB Weld in the hole and then put the strips back in. The JB Weld will keep them in place.

Ha! Yeah...that's quite the language we speak on here, Stef! I found the extra foot plate with the rod attached. Send me a PM with your address and I will mail it to you...no problem. It seems like it would be easier than to mess with the one you have.

Thanks for the kind offer Aaron,

It looks like the rod won't fix because the heel piece is worn out. When I bought the stand it had the rod installed wrongly so probably mis usage led to this failure. I'm not planning to play the hi-hat stand soon, so I won't need it tomorrow.

PS: Following you on FB,... you guys are busy,... The Band !!!
