Late 70s Sling. Hollywood Ace-Play Opinions?

Loading...

Hi Im a noobie on the forum and player rather than collector and wanted to get opinions on the late 70s Hollywood Ace drums as players especially in terms of warmth and sensitivity - the one Im looking at has rapid strainer and appears to be maple re-rings and looks in good shape but I wondered how they compared to the 60s models - also , any trouble getting snares for this drum - I had a WFL Classic with extended wires that I sold partly due to not being able to get even puresounds replacements -opinions very appreciated!

one more thing, I want this snare for small combo jazz playing so power and massive projection are not the priority, vintage sound and sensitivity are - thanks!

The Hollywood ace uses standard snare wires I ran puresound steel custom wires on mine. the 70's model with its sharper bearing edges and maple interior are my favorites they are very articulate and sound super,

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

thanks for the info! I found out its a 3 ply maple with what appear in pics maple re-rings - still a good bet for a sensitive jazz snare - I like some bottom end and the piercing crack some like is not my main priority in a snare - thanks again
