Is this Slingerland drum fishy? Last viewed: 22 hours ago

Loading...

Check out this ebay auction. Something fishy about this drum. Look closely at the lugs. You'll see the imprint of a different lug around the edges, maybe Soundking lugs. Looks like a good deal on a drum, but something's not right. What do you think?

That's a 48-50 badge. So it should have the small beavertails. That said those are the early style 40-47? The 48-54 had a lip on top by the insert hole. The ad does state the drum had Sound King lugs on it at some point. Which are not correct. So the correct style lugs are on it now. Take a look here for more lug info. It shows and explains the difference and years of the short beavertail lugs. http://www.coopersvintagedrums.com/slingerlandlugs.htm

With all due respect Glenn,I think that's a 51-55 badge, which was used on drums with beavertail,as well as mid 50's soundking lugs when they were introduced. So those impressions of soundking lugs are possible, and it appears the beavertails were switched out for the soundkings.

Steve that very well could be. I'd have to look at all the badges again to be certain. That said I do remember someone either here or DFO buying one of these off ebay not long ago. And having the same questions and issues. Not sure if it's the same drum or not. There's so many I lose track of them all. Thanks for the correction.

Ah HAAAAA!!!! Well I'm a dork. I didn't see the part where it said it had sound kings on it. Duh! Good find and too bad Kona bit it. If it were an original student Radio King, it would still be a pretty slick drum. I kind of dig the brown wood look. It can be tough buying crap on ebay. I bought a sweet blue duco 50's student Radio King with 8 dual tension lugs & single flange hoops for about $100 on ebay. When I got it, it was out of round. The guy wasn't a drummer & wouldn't have known it. He gave me a refund and I ate the shipping back to him.
