HELP : Pearl Vintage Identification Last viewed: 11 hours ago

Hi drums experts,

I need your help to identify my new kit...after hours of searching I found that it's a 1960's Pearl, tiger eye wrap...no more infos...

Do you know the model, wood? How does it sounds? What price?

A big groovy thanks !

Welcome to the forum. That's a nice little kit you have there. I have one with that same wrap, but I have double lugs (and more of them) rather than the single, centrally mounted ones you have--although I love that look. Are you missing a kick drum hoop? Is it a 20-12-14-14 kit? If so the sizes are a plus and the matching snare is nice. The original reso kick drum head with the Pearl logo is muy cool as well.

They look to be the six-ply shells (I don't see any reinforcement rings) and they're almost certainly made of luan, an Asian mahogany. I love my little made-in-Japan set and gig with them regularly. You'll find a fair amount of affection here for the old Japanese copy kits from the '60s and '70s as well as a few who are unimpressed. One forum housekeeping note--you might do better to post this in the non-USA section.

Currently playing for loud rock and roll gigs:
1982 Ludwig Classic in white Cortex, 24-13-14-18 + Coliseum snare
For quieter gigs:
Early '70s Whitehall Tiger Eye Pearl 20-12-14-14
Neglected but thinking about:
Early '70s Sonor Champions in Rosewood, 22-12-13-16

Thanks...

After spending time on different websites I am wondering if it's not a Pearl valencia outfit (cf Catalog 1969).

My question now is... why some "valencia" have the old P red badge while others have a kind of rectangle badge with valencia written on it?

Is it the same serie...depending of the year of production?

Are they exactly the same (3 plys, 6plys??)..and do they sound the same

Thx guys
