CBS made a corporate decision to divest themselves of everything other than their radio and television broadcasting businesses. They sold the New York Yankees to Steinbrenner. They sold their motion picture and recorded music companies to Sony. John McClaren was hired from Yamaha to head up CBS Musical Instruments. He brought his right hand man Bill Schultz with him to head up the Fender/Rogers/Rhodes division of CBS Musical Instruments. Under McClaren's direction, CBS sold the individual companies Steinway pianos, Gulbranson organs, Rodgers church organs, Lyon and Healy harps, Gemeinhart flutes. This left Fender/Rogers/Rhodes. Fender was the cash cow that provided huge profits for the corporation while Rhodes and especially Rogers did not. CBS stopped spending any money for Research and Development for Rogers drums. Schultz was charged with selling all three of the companies. Roland bought Rhodes and Rogers was sold to Island music. Many offers were submitted for Fender with most of them being vanity offers by importers of cheap Fender copies just so they could publish that they offered to buy Fender. Schultz was a no-nonsense guy who fielded all of these offers before he put together an employee buyout that enlisted investment by several of Fender's foreign distributors and some long-time Fender dealers. As things have evolved over the past twenty years, the current major stockholders of Fender are the family of one of the longest term Fender dealers from Hawaii. Well....you asked.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Nothing to joke about. I love my Biman snare (see pic below). It sounds every bit as good as a Ludwig.

That's why I come here about once a month, Howie. This forum is nearly dead and the guy who owns it doesn't care anymore. Sorry to be a downer, but it's pretty obvious.
We teach the world about historic correct drums and pies and then once the knowledge is out there , good by to the father of it all
That’s the way it is
But I’m still loyal
