I am looking to convert my 16 x 16 floor tom into a bop bass drum. Any ideas on what heads to use?

Thanks

I see you said bop do you mean bop jazz or just using the term bop as in jungle?

Done this to one of my 16's and also have a Yamaha JR sized kit with a 16x16.

Coated diplomat's seemed to work the best for me on the batter side, believe it or not but the coated emperor was too dead and unresponsive for my tastes when using a foot pedal beater.

Emad makes a real dedicated 16'' bass drum head too, had one on my JR kit and it was way to dead for me.

I wonder if Remo makes a Power Stroke coated in a 16?

I personally prefer wide open jazz bop sounding kick drums but for big band swing I slightly dampen my batter side.

Edit -

Went looking, and Remo does make Powerstroke 3's in most sizes, thinking that a PS3 is a happy medium. I like PS3's for rock/funk.

Also thought of a fiberskyn if you want even more wide open bop, I might try one of those as well :)

Found it!!
