Well guys, you can't try out heads like cymbals, any suggestions on what heads to pick up for my sling 20" floor that I'm going to use as a bass?

thoughts were Evans e mad batter or remo power stroke 4 or superkick 2

I want this drum to have a nice deep thump, I cant wait to gig with it!!!D' Drummer

After experimenting with Remo, Evans, and Aquarian heads on a 20" Rogers bass, I went with Evans EQ4 batter and an Evans EQ3 resonant with no port.

This combo sounds great on this drum.

I agree with Matt M....

Evans eq4..!!!!

On the batter with just a lil bit of foam inlay (not touching either skin)

Is by far the best and I've tried..

And I have Tried & died on 10 different combos..

Both my Rogers Dayton 20" and Fullerton have them..

My rogers 18" is a emad with a evan pillow inside..

Go with the EQ4...it'll sound like a sustained heartbeat.!!!

Get a set or single bass drum wooden hoop....and T n claws...to convert..

If you.use a true bassdrum skin with thé métal flr tom hoop...it wont fit.properly...

Have to convert..otherwise you l have problèms...

I converted a 1972 18" rogers flr tom......had this problem...

If you use a bass drum head you need to use a bass drum wooden hoop. If you use a regular metal hoop you need to use a regular tom batter head. I use Remo Powerstroke 3 heads on my 20" bass drums. They work very well. awesome sound with no need for anything inside the drum.

Now that makes sense. why do they hire people that know as much about drums as my wife? did any of you guys doing this project have to use spacers in between the lugs so the tension rode go in straight and not on an angle?

I have an 18" floor tom conversion. I'll check mine out with both type of rims and heads later today and report back tonight.

Sorry, can't help you after all. the lugs on my drum are very short and require a 3-3/8" to 3-1/2" tension rods (which I don't have on hand) in order to use a wooden hoop. Sorry.

I've converted both a 16" and an 18" to a bass drum and when I want a "thump" have found great success with an Aquarian Super-kick II. I've used an Evans emad reso head and no internal muffling. I like a tiny bit of resonance and it adds a little of that low rumble.

I've never had any problem using regular heads on bass drums - I've done that with my Bop kit (18') or with rock kits with bass drum heads on floor tom conversions. I don't know what problem people are talking about.
