I have a gretsch round badge snare that seems to be a bit strange. It is BDP with a microsensitive strainer all the parts seem original (not the handle on the strainer - thanks JP2) but there is no silver paint on the inside it is just a clear coat. Is this usual or do I have something special?

Nol this is fairly common, this is a late 50's early 60's shell!!
cool I was kinda hoping it was special though, is there a sonic difference?
I couldn't hear a big difference, than the clear and the painted shell. now the older shells yes I could, not the late 50's 60's shells!

I do love the sound of this drum it's one of my favorites in my collection

There are 60s RB Gretsch shells out there without the silver paint although they're not the norm. 50s non-painted 3 ply shells are the norm. The 6 ply shells without the paint are just as good as the ones with the paint. I don't know if there is any value difference whatsoever.
