I'm getting tired of the metallic overtones my 70's Gretsch drums give off. It's the spring reverb inside the lugs, right? What is the best material to use to pack the lugs with? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Cotton or foam. I have cotton packed in mine.
The tried and true.
Thanks bulldog.
I just also wonder if this is all part of "That Great Gretsch Sound?" Did Art Blakey pack the lugs of his drums. I dare say NOT.
I used cotton squares which are for removing make-up. I folded them in half and wrapped them around the spring. I left the internal dampening in the drums and dont get any ringing from those
....yes I actually took pictures
