Hi, I was wondering if anybody knew how to tell the difference between old gretsch die cast hoops and the new ones they make now. Thanks

Good question! I found this copy with an ebay ad for Gretsch die-cast hoops. Based on this, there is a substantial difference between old and modern in terms of manufacturing method. That's not saying they don't 'look' the same.

The ebay ad:

"This an authentic Gretsch 10-Lug 14" Die-Cast Chrome Hoop.

These were made on original Brooklyn tooling. These used the old Gretsch process: Hand polished first, then copper plating, then nickel plating, then bright chrome plating. Very rare.

Made from old Gretsch USA tooling and same exact hoop as used on all the great Gretsch drums of the '60s through 2000'.

If you want the real thing, this is it!!

Original Retail Price: $220.00"

Hope this info helps. (?)

John

Too many great drums to list here!

I did not know they were made the same up until 2000. Ive noticed on my 2 that look perfect, that on the inside the lip tapers off gradually. On my older looking ones the lip is a like a bump. Is this a dif between the 2? Thanks everybody
