FS: Ludwig or Leedy 1920's era Levon style snare Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hi everyone, This is one of two snares I bought to make up a Levon Helm style set with the idea I'd keep the one I liked best. This is a 15x5 solid one ply mahogany shell with one ply maple hoops. I decided to keep a 14x3 for my kit so this should go to someone who will use it. You can see it's cleaned up and in great shape. It has an odd throw-off I haven't seen before so I'm including pics of it closed and open. Works fine. I'm assuming this is a Leedy or Ludwig anywhere from 1900 to the 1920's but if anyone knows more let me know. Hopefully that throw-off will be a clue. Anyway, it sounds great! Throw a wallet on top and you have that classic Levon tone. Good thing is that modern heads fit easily which is very unusual for this era I think. It has a brand new Remo Skyntone batter head and brand new Hazy 300 snare side head. Also brand new Puresound snare wires. Needs nothing but a player and stand!

$100 plus postage costs.

Thanks!

Steve

Whate a nice drum!!

I'm curious how do you keep those tension rods evenly spread? Are they attached to rims?

They are not mounted to the hoops at all, the tension holds them in place.

In regards to even spacing Im going to make a quick jig to keep it all equal.

Sometimes there are marks left on the hoops from the claws...I normally just line up the rods/claws with these and that sets the spacing...

Cheers
