Dynasonic replacement snare wires Last viewed: 12 hours ago

I have seen conflicting information about the availability of replacement snare wires for Dynasonic drums. They have been offered by Fat Cat and Puresound in the past, but are they still offered by these suppliers?

Any authoritative information would be much appreciated.

John, I am not in need of any wires right now, but just curious to know if the replacements are still offered by these companies.

Does anybody here know that?

I had a personal contact at D'Addario (parent Co. of PureSound) who told me that their Dynasonic PD1416 wires were no longer being manufactured; however, if you go to PureSound's site, all the vintage wires are still displayed with a "Buy It Now" option which links to 3 sources: Steve Weiss, Amazon, and Lone Star Percussion. Only Lone Star Percussion states that these wires are no longer available and discontinued by the manufacturer. Amazon lists just 5 sets still available, so it looks like there is still some N.O.S. out there. Once it's depleted, I think that may be it.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for going these lengths to find this out. It will be very interesting to see Puresound's reply. Did Fat Cat discontinue their Dyna snare wires, do you know?

Magnus,

WE GOT OUR DEFINITIVE, AUTHORITIVE ANSWER! George Santos, Customer Service Specialist for PureSound just sent me this reply:

"Hello, we discontinued the vintage line a few years back and then brought back the 5 most popular sku's. The PD1416 being one of the ones we brought back. It's on our site.

George Santos

Consumer/Customer Service Product Specialist: CR-Evans and Puresound, D'Addario & Company Inc.

So there you have it. They have been brought back, but I don't think they're being produced in large quantities, as my local percussion shop and G.C. admitted that they still can't get them. Hope this helped.

Hi Mike,

Many, many thanks for finding this out. This is good news. As I said above, I don't need any wires right now, but it sure feels good to know that I will still be able to find wires for my Dynas if and when I have to.

I also wrote to Big Bang Distribution, who seem to be the manufacturers of Fat Cat snare wires, including the FC1416DS for Dynas. I asked if the FC1416DS is still being made. The reply I got was short:

"Yes it is and it should be in stock."

The Fat Cat wires are steel, and seem to be a lot less pricey than the Puresounds.
