C.G. Conn Delux bass drum

Hey guys! I'm new the forum.

I picked this up in an antique store thinking I might nab a weird, tasty new kick sound for the studio the other day. Not sure if I'm going to hold onto it, because I'm thinking of just hunting down a more cohesive kit for my home studio rather than frankensteining things together like I have for a while.

It's pretty... well-used. Someone had the bright idea to sloppily paint it matte black at some point too.

I'm a noob to the vintage drum thing, so I'm curious if this is the kind of thing anyone more into it would care about. Realistically, it's just going to sit here most of the time, so if it's the kind of thing someone would want I'll probably just keep it moving on.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me!

Welcome to VDF!

I hope you didn't pay much for it. The drum is beat. You have Made In Japan lugs on one side and what looks like Radio King style lugs on the other. Parts missing all over. The shell has been painted inside and out. One hoop is chewed up and the other is a modern replacement. A real mongrel that one is!

If you part it out you might recoup a few bucks. If those are Radio King lugs you'll make a few dollars back that way. Otherwise, you were better off passing on it. To get the paint off that drum is tedious, messy work. It would cost way more than it is worth to put it right again. The other thing is it's a six lug bass drum, not a lot of drummers looking for those.

Get what you can back out of it and invest in a decent vintage kit. You don't need a sky-high budget to find a nice one out there.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Thanks for taking a look, John! I figured that was probably going to be the case. Thankfully I didn't spend too much on it. I'll probably just record some trashy no-fi samples for posterity's sake, and part it out like you mentioned... or just give it to someone.
