Hi everyone. I recently picked up a late 50's Slingy solid shell Krupa snare and finally had some time to clean it up and put some heads on it. The reso side fits just fine but the batter side is out of round to the point where the head will push on but it buckles the head a little. I tried tuning it up but the batter side just won't behave and it sounds pretty bad. I'm thinking about making a wood flesh hoop to fit the shell and tucking a calf head for the batter with the idea that since the flesh hoop would fit and a calf head can be tucked to that shape I might be back in business. Anyone try this? I'd hate to give up on this snare so I may be grasping here. Worth a try?
