When did Ludwig stop making brass supraphonics and switch to aluminum? I am thinking about adding one to my kit but I want the brass one.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
They phased out the brass shells around 63 as jaghog has said, but they kept crimping the snare beds and using brass hoops on some of the earliest Ludalloy shells. The brass shells started out with the WFL badge, later came the transition badge and then the keystone badge with no serial number. I own and play a COB from 62/63 when they introduced the baseball bat style muffler with the red tone control which they kept using on Supra-phonics until around 68. prior to this tone control all brass supras / Super Ludwigs had a round knob tone control. Although they look similar they sound different to a Ludalloy Supra-phonic shell.
A good starting point is a badge with no serial, but when making the transition from brass to aluminum shell you'll sometimes find an aluminum shell with crimped snare beds, brass hoops and keystone badge with no serial just like the COB shell.
Thank you gentlemen so much. Now I at least have a starting point for my search. It sounds like I may not be easy.
