Here's an alternative to drilling.DW's DWSM2141 works great for ride or crash cymbals. Just thought I'd pass along.

I've been using a Gibralter hoop mounted cymbal L-arm on all my kits for about 4 years nows. Never had a problem. A plus is that you can change the location whenever you want. You can also transfer it from kit to kit with no problem.
