Another item pulled from Grandfather's garage. I'm not familiar with Ajax and can't seem to find a place to get this snare accurately dated. It's in fantastic shape but I need info so I can come up with a listing price. thanks
Ajax B & H Snare - questions Last viewed: 1 hour ago
It looks like a late 50's to early 60's Ajax Pipper. Unable to help with a value.
Just learning more about the British stuff myself, but I have a 14" marching snare with all the same cues. Stripped off lacquer, and made it into a very nice, rich toned floor tom - using with a Vintage, British orphan kit I put together over the summer. Nice, (birch?) shell, with beefy re-rings, with shallow bevel. Nice heavy die-cast hardware as well. Your snare looks in nice shape - I'd say that this is a quality instrument. That's about all I can contribute.:2Cents:

Barrhaven Drum Guy
Is there a serial number stamped inside the shell? Try looking through the badge hole first, but they are sometimes too faint and a head needs to be removed. Not all the drums have them but might help with a date although as has been said it looks late 50s early 60s. No expert but I've nott seen that solid colour before - has it been painted?
Ajax, although nicely made drums don't usually seem to command much of a price. All about perception. I would say on a good day £80 -£100 which is $130-$160 if the wrap is original.
Excellent feedback. Thanks, guys.
Not sure if it's been painted but it wouldn't surprise me. Grandfather liked to tinker
