Just got this Piccalo snare drum today (See 1st 3 pics left to right) to add to my 69 Ludwig B/O kit. My main snare is a 1969 Super sensitive with Keystone badge is the last pic. As you can see they are both chrome so they will look good next to each other.

I have to say I am spoiled by my SS and really don't like the piccalo's throw off. Maby I am just not used to it but it seems hard to move. Any advice on that would be helpful. I think the snare strands are Tama and any advice on what to use would be great as well.

It came with a Remo FIBERSKYN2 Thin batter and a Remo Ambassador reso.

I haven't got to try it out other than a little here but I have practice tomorrow and will be able to put it into my kit then. (My kits not here)

Well I played this piccalo along side my SS yesterday and that was fun.

The FIBERSKYN2 head has to go. It is already starting to flake off in the center and I wasn't using it all that much. Also found out that that model head was discontinued about 10 years ago so it is at least that old. It looked brand new when I got it. I purchased the drum on e-bay and they didn't show the head, not that that would have made a differance. Any way the sound was OK but I think a better head will make an improvement on that.

Still don't like the throw off on this snare. Is there a fix or a improvement that I can make?

It is very hard to move so that makes using it while playing impossible.

More pics as it was shown on e-bay. The second pic is a good view of the throwoff.

Nice drum! The strainer looks like it may have been installed crooked. That may be why you have trouble with it. I've had a few drums with that strainer and they have always worked well for me. Also, I have a kit with fiberskyn heads that are well over 10 years old and have been beat alot and I have not had any problem with them flaking. Again, I really like your drum and hope you have alot of fun with it.

I think you right about the strainer. I took everything apart this morning and found that the throwoff lever is conected by a press fit shoulder pin and that was loose. I pressed it back in place and peaned it from the backside so it it now were it should be. I reasembled it and now it works great.
