Wow, there are so many drums I would like to have with me, but I'm with O-lugs on this one. Either my Acrolite or even my Standard with Acrolite finish. Both are easy to tune and maintain, sound great and the salt air wouldn't destroy the finish! Yep, those Rogers bongos would be great, too!!
Your "desert island" snare drum choice Last viewed: 1 minute ago
Heard opinions that this may not really exist (really a Supraphonic without chrome and changed out lugs?) but this looks fantastic! Possibly special order for schools? Anywho, loss of chrome, still cool.
In the 60s and 70s, there was a school system in NY that was ordering 6.5" Acrolites.

Ludwig drummer here.. Not intending to buck the trend, but my snare is a RB Gretsch COB 4160. It sounds great. Ironically it has 60s Ludwig snare wire on it!
If I could pick another snare it would indeed be a 70s B/O 6.5x14 Ludwig Black Beauty.
LeedyBDP, I'm totally OK with you not being on my Island. I think your Leedy Island would probably be more of a lifeboat, though!

Cool jonnistix, thank you! So really rare on top of it. flower
I have no "desert island" snare. As long as I have a good snare drum, I'm good. I love my Slingerland parade snare, but I miss the acrylic snare I built using an RCI Vistalite wannabe shell with hardware from a low-end Yamaha snare I bought from Banjo Center. I also miss the Ludwig chrome over wood 8" deep Colloseum (sp?) snare. As long as I can have a selection of heads and snares, I can live with almost any snare drum.
Dead dogs like rusty fire hydrants!!!
Okay. Desert island snare means I have only one and one has to do until I get rescued or I meet Maryann from Gilligan's Island and get her pregnant. The one drum I simply cannot live without is a Ludwig Supraphonic. It's built like a tank and it sounds incredible in either brass or ludalloy.
If this was a favorite snare I ever played thread then I would pick a mid-60's Slingy Black/Gold badge Super Sound King. I had one and it was the most incredible metal snare I have ever played, owned, etc. It cracked like Marion Berry and sounded wonderful loose like fatback. Mine had issues with the parallel throw. It wouldn't stay on so i gave it to my cousin. If I had the resources we have now I would still have it and be playing it. So there goes some spit flying in the face of the Ludwig hugger concept. JK. Spitting is nasty unless she likes it.:)
