Howdy All - I -finally- tracked down a video clip of the SRV/Hendrix cover band I was playing with from the late 80's through to 98'. It wasn't easy tracking this thing down! It's from 1991. One of the things we did was, (six) half hour segments of an instructional music program aimed at kids for QPTV Queens Public Television.
The video clip is from the intro to the show. Each segment deals with a different style of music and included individual instruction for each band instrument. Every show would also feature a local band. It was a ton of fun to do. The show was called: 'GarageBand 101' produced by Rene' Valdivia of QPTV. We had a lot of fans too! Lots of letters every week from middle aged guys that had pulled their old instruments out of the closet and they were learning and following along. Like I said, fun stuff. This was done 22 years ago!
The Intro to the show: Two things you should know... the keyboard player was sick and didn't show up so the piano part is missing. The other item is; no vocals! They wanted a strictly instrumental version of Freddy King's 'Going Down' playing behind the program credits. Robbie Sambat, our lead guitarist did an amazing journeyman job 'improvising on the spot' a killer lead guitar part to make up for the missing keyboard and vocal. Check out some of the Blues licks he pulls out of the bag! The man smokes through the entire number, making it up as he went along. He was a fun player to work with.
Third generation dupe so the sound sucks, but if you crank it up, you can hear the band well enough. Don't laugh at the hair-do's! It was 91' and we all had hair down to our collective a$$es! LOL Also, the video repeats for some weird reason. No need to hear it twice. When it ends the first time, just log off You tube.
Enjoy, please feel free to post up any You Tube vids of your band here.
And so... Purdie plays...
