Has anyone ever seen a 1943-44 WWII WFL Victorious set or snare in the Marble finish? I just purchased this snare drum. I had a Victorious set in WMP and I have seen them in BDP but never in the Marble finish. I'm guessing this one may have been early in the run because of the badge. The later WFL badges did not have "founder" on them and the majority of these had the aluminum WFL sticky badge. It will need to have the strainer replaced because this one is broken. (Help!) I should have the drum in my hands later this week, so I can get better pictures then. I wasn't sure what to do with this one. At first I thought to refinish it in WMP, but the more I thought about it, I'm going clean up the Marble finish as best I can, clean up the hardware and refinish the wood lugs in the same silver paint. I think it is best to keep this one original since it doesn't seem like there are many left. Any matching toms or bass drums out there for sale?
WWII WFL Victorious snare drum
This is a great piece of history.
A restoration preserving the finish is the best idea. IMHO.
Fantastic man.
Want to see it cleaned up.
That finish is so rare.
Never seen it before.
Is it a paint?
Looks like fabric or plastic in the pic.

Thanks to Mr. Jerry Jenkins

Thank you. I'm definately preserving this one, scratches and all. The finish is painted on. I don't know how they did this, but it's really cool. The pictures were sent to me by the previous owner. I will have the drum later this week, so I can take some better pictures then.
Cool vintage drum. I agree that clean it up and keep it as original as possible. Neat score!

Hi,
I'm looking for a Victorious Bass Drum Pedal. Is there any help you can give me?
Thank you,
SAZ
I'm not sure how deep I'd go on restoration.....fixing a thing or two back to "as new" and the rest of the drum not being repairable to the same level can lead to an "unbalanced" look.
I have an early 1900s Lyon & Healy marcher that I took too far on the hardware and ended up regrettably removing a 100 years+ of the patina on the shell to wind up with a "maintained" rather than "restored" appearance.
Your drum is a fantastic piece of history, hope she turns out nicely for you!!!
Cool drum! That is the second generation of WFL WWII drums. Prior to the Cecil Strupe design, WFL was using lugs nearly identical to those used on Rolling Bomber drums.
If it were mine, I'd focus on getting it playable again. Then maybe I'd clean it up a little bit (not too deeply), but I wouldn't repaint lugs or anything. If necessary I'd set some elements straight if the're not.
Beatiful drum.
Back in the days there were people specialized in mimicking marble, wood, etc. With paint. It was part of decorator's education, people that had a talent for it, sepcialized and did it all day and all week long (getting even better at it). I guess a guy or woman like that was working for WFL back then,
