Thorn:
So I assume after you trimmed the piece off, you flattened it out as much as possible, then glued it back onto the bald spot? Is that right?
I'll bet it looks pretty good, no?

Exactly. I sandwiched it between a damp washcloth and ironed it flat. Constantly checking to make sure I wasn't melting the wrap. Then I attached it with 3M spray adhesive and clamped it.
It turned out OK. If you get up close, you can see the seam. Since the back of the wrap was white, it shows up in places where the seam wasn't exact.

Lucky, what kit did you have in Champagne?
My kit was pink, I was always under the impression that it was champagne until I bought some inlay strips that were champagne and they were way off!
As far as keeping the Swivo hardware I would vote yes. My pink kit had a Ludwig rail mount instead of the low end Slingerland stuff.
" My pink kit had a Ludwig rail mount instead of the low end Slingerland stuff".
Huh? What low end Slingerland stuff? The Walberg & Auge rail on Ludwigs was better or even different than the W&A rail on Slingerlands? We Slingy guys take umbrage from the insinuation that the same item with a Ludwig label is superior. I won't even begin a discussion about the relative merits of both brands of drums in the golden ages of the 50's and 60's.
Well, let's stay on the wrap track here.
Wow! your Gretsch kit looks great. Is it going to be staying in the music room?
Thanks Thorn for the tips on ironing the wrap.

I am not opposed to Slingerland hardware and mounts, its just that this kit had the low end stuff Slingerland offered at the time. It was not the rail mount, more like a thumb screw clip. Not sure what it was called.
Now back to the thread!
Thank you for 'splainin' what you meant. We now return to the regularly scheduled thread.
[QUOTE=kellyj;161146]Good points...
I tried the wrap on the tom and it does work. The only problem is the muffler holes don't quite line up. they are about 1/8" out on one side. The over-sized knobs and screw washers will cover this. For some reason there are no holes for the tom clip mount in the 13" shell? I know there should be four holes. I checked the shell for a fill-in job but there was none! The only holes in the tom shell were for the Roger's tom mount! Could it be that this kit was ordered virgin for the purpose of installing a Rogers mounting system? I don't think Gretsch would have installed the Rogers mounts.
It was not that uncommon back in the day to order drums (specifically mounted toms and bass drums) without hardware and then have the music store install the hardware of your choice. Of course some guys did those modifications themselves. More often than not, the hardware of choice was Rogers and for good reason.
