I'm not seeing anything Yamaha about them. Probably European. And cool!
Love it or hate it, that is one interesting wrap!
That set needs to be rescued.
A lot of interesting things on those drums.
“I did not trip and fall. I attacked the floor and I believe I am winning.”
I have seen some pics of MIJ drums made in the 50's and 60's that were made for the domestic market that borrowed from the U.S, England and Europe, and I have seen a few MIJ's that looked very Euro, that being said, those look European to me,esp because of the tuning rods,FT leg mounts, and I don't ever remember seeing rims like that. The color and the grain on the int ply looks more to me like what the Euro drum companies used.
I love that wrap and the look of the kit in general,I would get them if the price was right just for the vibe.
My guess is "St. George" brand Made in Japan.
Many of them had a Euro appearance because they knocked off so many features of kits such as Premier and Sonor. There's even a near exact knock-off of the world renowned Premier Model 250 bass pedal I've encountered on St. George and other MIJ stencil brand kits. The bass drum hoops, style of pearl finish, and the mounted tom holder all scream "MIJ".
However, wonders never cease in the world of vintage drums so there's no telling. Hmmmmmm ? !
Speaking of knock-offs.... look at the leg mounts on the floor tom. Look familiar? Think, Gladstone! Look at the sides of the lugs... Gretsch style. 'Whoever' made those drums, they were trying to reproduce the look of Gladstone era Gretsch kits. The repro they did on the lugs and FT mounts is almost (very slight differences) a straight-ahead rip-off of the Gretsch/Gladstone designs.
Wild wrap! I've never seen that pattern before.

My first kit was a used St. George from the late 1960s which didn't look like kit in the photos. My kit was a typical MIJ but did have an adjustable butt end on the snare. If this kit is a St. George, it is a different series.
See......I told you they were something special! It may end up being one of the most mysterious kits to come up for our inspection on this forum!
Just wait a little longer for the Euro-experts to jump in. This may turn into a long thread of debate of the finer details of that beautiful kit......
but wait.....there's more!!!!!
We want to see pics of the Paiste pies you got too!!!!
PLEASE!! :)
