Same reason that trim carpenters ask if you are going to stain your trim or paint it prior to quoting a job.

LOL ! Hey now, thats not true for everyone. I make my copes and miters nice and tight no matter what wood or finish. Cant make a sloppy joint, just cant do it.

I still say keep the Ludwigs!

Thank you!

Hey Mark,

I think for you, it's all about which kit is worth more, and also sellable. As long as you've been posting here, and on other forums, you've never kept a kit more than a couple months. Hopefully one day you will find the kit that makes you happy.

Thanks for all the responses, I've decided to do the trade. I talked with Bart from Rockin Robin in Houston and he will trade me another Ludwig kit for the GMS. They have some sparkle kits in the 13,16,22 sizes I prefer.

I was having trouble getting the Club Date kit to sound right, especially the 12, I was never a big fan of that size drum anyway. I'm heading down there Friday, so I'll post some pics of the kit I come home with, hopefully, it will be my dream kit.Excited

Man, talk about not keeping your kits very long!

I love a guy that is not afraid to do a deal. Good for you.

That is certainly true in your case I have no doubt. But then the average carpenter pulls out the pre-primed MDF trim instead of the hardwood and leaves it to the painter to fix whatever issues arise. "Nothin' a little caulk won't fix!"

Ask yourself this question:

"Why would the other party want your Ludwig kit so much that they're willing to trade a top of the line newer modern kit for it?"

Answer:

Because they'll be rid of something to which they attribute less value, while gaining something they've long wanted to own.

Don't be a chump!

Anyone can always purchase a used newer drum kit.

That GMS has great build quality, and was pretty expensive.I like the finish, and the deeper sizes are fine with me.

Since you seem to flip kits pretty quickly I would say your main concern would be can you get the same dollars out of the gms as the clubdates?

If so,and since you think you could get another Luddy if you are not happy and you don't like the 12 on the Clubbys I would def do the deal,I doubt you will get a bad drum on the GMS.

Hey! I'll have you guys know that I measured, cut and installed my first base board trim today!

Where's my caulk gun... electricit

I may have done that trade... I do like the sound and look of the vintage, but I like my Yammies and Legend kit also. Luckily, I have both old and new(ish).

You only have to ask yourself one question, which is the core reason why we all love vintage drums SOOOOO much.

Are they makin any more of em?

I think you can figger the rest out.
