From Kona

Nice find Jazzbo!I just got some information from the Pearl Drum Forum stating that my drums are probably late 60's.....68-69....Valencia Series. Again....I like the smaller sizes = 20bd/12&14 toms.

You have a gorgeous set . Haven't pulled the trigger yet but am seriously considering doing so . Cheers -

1967 Ludwig Super Classic Oyster Blue Pearl

I had a kit just like that in the same sizes with a different finish. Are all the interiors gray? If they are, they are basically compressed wood fibers. Edges should be rounded and they, or at least the one is had got many compliments on their sound. I recommend coated Emperors for top side and clear or coated Ambassadors for reso. The 14 sounded incredible tuned medium. The 6 lug snare I had with my kit I couldn't get to sound right, so used my Supra.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Very nice kit.. Those vintage Pearls also record nicely.. I did a session with a vintage Pearl Tiger Eye kit at my cousin's studio and it sounded huge !..Mind you the kit was 22-16-13, but it still sounded warm and punchy.. Here is your kit, in white marine..

Thanks guys. I have them packed away for now....but I can't stand the suspense! I think I will unpack at least one and start to tear down and clean it.....carefully of course.

human71 - thanks for the link. My floor tom has very different leg mounts. I think mine is newer maybe......just a guess.

I found a catalog photo of what appears to be my very drums except for the small tom mounting hardware (on the drum).

Very cool kit! I have a WMP set like that, except my snare drum is chrome.

"You know what would be great?"

Couldn't wait until after Christmas to start cleaning these. Here's the 8x12 tom cleaned. The drum sounds good as is with the old heads.
