once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Nice drums. Slings are next on my to-buy list.
Thanks everyone, I really do appreciate the feedback. Still haven't had a chance to fully tune them up and really go to town, but with what little work I have done they already sound amazing (can't wait to get a few new heads for it).
A couple of questions about the bass drum.
The big question for me is what to do with "pitting" (right word?) and the dark gunk that has chosen to live there. I tried rubbing some of it out with a warm, damp, soft rag, but it seemed to have very minimal impact. Short of fully stripping the drum, can anyone recommend a way to try and clean it out?
Also wondering if anyone recognizes what that extra tom mount is (brand, age, etc)?
Cheers!

you really need to remove all the hardware, soak it in warm water+dawn, then use simichrome metal polish to clean it, seal it with a good car wax after words, for the shells, Windex soft cotton towel to remove the grime, then polish the shells with Novus plastic polish, #2 is what you want to get, you'll be amazed at What you'll end up with.

Much appreciated. I've never stripped/reassembled a drum before, I'll do a practice run on a beater kit i have laying around before diving into the Slingerland.
Any thoughts on the origins of the extra mount?

It maybe MIJ, or MIA, Definitely not Slingerland.
Assuming not Rogers or Ludwig either?
