WFLIII Drums - information

Loading...

Hey everyone. I just wanted to to get some official information out about WFLIII and what he wants to do with the drums he is currently offering.

The drum at the show was a rough prototype. It did not have the final badge, commemorative # plate or the final lugs.

Attached to this post is the badge. Shape and design are important and they have symbolic meaning to him and his family.

The badge has hints of the keystone in it. The keystone is an important stone in an arch and why that was originally used as a badge on their drums. Other companies used that image on products and logos.

Important in holding up a building are the columns. the "III" represents those columns with WFL sitting on top to commemorate the lineage of the Ludwig Family and the name.

The circle part of the badge represents a drum.

The drum inside the badge is similar to a tie clip that BIII carries around with him wherever he goes. He had it on at the Chicago Drum Show. There are only three of those tie clips, one for him, his father and grandfather.

The 1 of 50 plates will be on the inside of the drum where he will be signing each drum.

There are two types of lugs being offered. (tube lugs by request)

Classic III lug

Legacy III lug

They will be a natural brushed and polished aluminum lug. The shell at the show is aluminum. Here are the specs.

The shell is 3mm or 1/8" aluminum, it has machined double 45 degree bearing edges (not rolled) and laser cut snare beds. Does not have a center bead.

The finish is gloss black powder coat base with a heavy metal flake silver top coat.

The strainer is the Trick GS007 Multi-Step, Trick butt too.

The hoops are 2.3mm steel

The snares are 20 strand German wire.

These drums will be in the black finish shown at the show, but there will be other finishes offered later.

This is a step one for BIII, he has an idea for a simple strainer and eventually moving into a wood shell similar to drums we have seen in the past for wood ply construction.

He is not trying to copy the past, because as we all know, that is a day gone by, like many things on the market, products need to move along with the times. There is a lot of meaning about the drum as I have tried to detail here.

The price currently is $676.00 and will be made locally in the USA.

This is not a sales pitch either, I have no vested interested in the company. I like to help people and I'm helping BIII as much as I can.

Another little tidbit is that his grandfather started WFL close to the same age BIII is now.

He sold a decent amount of drums at the show and it was good to see his supporters come out and stand behind him and what he is trying to do.

Thanks for your time and I will update things here as they change or need to be clarified in this post.

And one other factual piece of history. The photographer that took the photos of the drum for the web site is the same photographer that took the original Ludwig photos for the ads you remember in print - how can we forget the Stable of Stars Poster! The same guy! He is helping and supporting BIII as much as he can also.
