Waht Is Carl Palmer Playing Here?

Loading...

Can anyone tell what snare drum Carl Palmer is using here? Hard to tell but one of the best shots may be at the 2:22 mark.

Is that a Zoomatic strainer found on some Slingerlands?

I don't think it is a Slingerland snare.

Hard to tell, but the hoops and strainer don't look Slingerland to me.

It's Gretsch toms - but I'm not sure about the snare drum - could be Ludwig.

Around six minutes there are a few very brief shots of the throwoff side of the snare. You can see a Zoomatic throw and the Slingerland lugs.

Looks to be a deep dish wooden shell......maybe a Concert King....??

Hi,

I haven't posted in a while, I'm friends with ELP's archivist and he asked Carl what snare this is.

Carl's response:

"Slingerland Radio King 7 inches deep"

I notice there appears to be an attachment in the middle of the shell facing Carl, maybe a drum key holder? Would that help narrow down the year?

Ask him what happened to "THE" ELP kit from the 70s?

Ringo bought it for Zak; Ringo has since donated it to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, but no one wants to pay to ship it from the UK. Carl said the HoF can keep it outside, it's stainless steel!
