Man thats a killer set. Someone got a great deal for 200 bucks. What year do you think it is. Beech wood..nice..
I'm not sure what kind of wood that is...hard to tell by the one pic you could see inside the BD. I don't know much of anything about Sonor, so I don't know what woods they used back then. I know the lugs are cool, though. A friend of mine that builds drums put some on his personal 20, 10, 14 turquoise sparkle kit...looks great and sounds amazing. Only thing vintage about it is the lugs, though.

The add says beech. Not a big expert on sonor but I know they were famous for the beech sets and they where crossing the laminates back then to get lower tomes. DW does this now and calls it SSC specialized shell configuration..
Sonor drums are very cool.
It`s beech, late sixties, re-wrapped, no dampers, non slotted t-rods, bd spur wing nuts are incorrect, BD claws near pedal are different, possibly two Champion hoops, no badges, tom mount don`t belong, prolly a few more things but 200 for a great sounding kit aint bad !!

how could you tell it was rewrapped and did they have the rods that you needed a key back then, is that how you could tell they were different..
Impressive assessment my friend..

I didn't read the ad. I was just thinking 200 + 100 ship is a good deal for any good drum kit. Interesting info about the cross-lamination though, thanks for sharing that. Like OddBall said:

Seam placement, and yes it had slotted t-rods on the toms. People somtimes change out the bottom two claws on a BD near the pedal to tune them without lifting or facilitate the pedal attachment !! (in this case !!)
