I'm looking at a vintage snare drum for sale.
The pictures I have aren't very good but it looks like a 50's Slingerland chromed metal snare with streamline lugs and a 3-point strainer. Either 8 or 10 lugs, can't tell which. Probably 6"x14".
The shell has a formed reinforcement ring in the center.
Haven't seen too many metal snares of this vintage.
Perhaps a Krupa signature snare. Will try to post the picture I have.
Any idea of it's value?

I found a picture of this drum on VDG in the 1936 catalog, marketed as a Radio King.
Thought the RK was always solid maple.

This guy is a total scammer. Ive been trying to see this drum as well (he is near Chicago). The picture of the super rare RK he posted is off of www.coopersvintagedrums.com
He claims that his kit was bought in 1978 but the one he shows is a 1990's Ridgeland Slingerland kit. The only pictures of the snare are these that are stolen off of the coopers site. He claims to have 60's Zildjians for sale as well with the kit (all for $400) but won't send any extra pictures of ANYTHING.
Id stay away if I was you. He is a joker.

Im not saying this guy doesnt have drums for sale, but the chance of them including this super rare RK are slim to none. His email responses are very strange as well...basically just repeats his ad and doesnt answer questions.
Who knows....maybe he is legit. Why havent you been able to see the drums yet? What has your experience been with correspondence?

I just drove over and looked at the drums. They wer about 15 minutes from me.

He's not a scammer, he's just really clueless.
He's got a set of black Slingerlands that appear to be the "Made in Japan" variety.
The Drums in the pictures look like Ridgeland Slingys with brass badges, good drums.
They do look similiar from about 50 ft.
His garage is packed with junk and the drums were buried stacked in the middle.
As soon as I saw the cheap chrome import snare I knew right away it was a waste of time.
There were a few old USA Zildjians but he wasn't interested in parting out the set.
The guy clearly doesn't know anything about drums. I politely informed him that they were import Slingys.
He admitted that the pictures in the ad were not the drums he has but he didn't want to dig them out and set them up.
I have to laugh because I scrolled right past the pictures on Coopers when I was frantically researching this drum.
Never saw it. LOL!
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
Hope nobody makes a long drive to see this junk.

Good to know its not a scam at least (at least not on purpose)! I was definitely pooping my pants for a minute there hoping to scoop it up until I found the pics. I knew they looked familiar...but wasn't sure until I checked the coopers site.
